Grandparents' Breakfast

Tomorrow is grandparents' breakfast at Jonah and Jill's school. After last year, I have a plan. I will have them both spend the night. I think I will make spaghetti and garlic bread for supper. Then we will get up very early and get to the school by 7:00 (is that early enough?) and park in the handicapped spot right out front. Then we will wait in the car until school opens at 7:30. Then we have to visit both classrooms to say they will be attending the breakfast and then we can stand in line. Last year they had some cold scrambled eggs, sausages, sweet rolls and fruit along with milk, juice and coffee. I think I will bring my own coffee.

Last year, I waited too long to get there and had to park about 4 blocks away and then walk all over the school to collect the kids and then found out we had to visit their classrooms. My knees were killing me and I was limping badly by the time I got to the back of a very long line. It was held outside in the covered pavillion and it was steamy hot as it will probably be tomorrow.

Why do I do it? Well, it's for the kids and not for the breakfast. And it is fun to talk to the other grandparents. The school was surprised last year by the huge turnout. Wish me luck.

  1. Good luck! I sure wish they did that at Amara's school. They used to do a Grandparents Day in Amara's preschool where the grandparents helped with an art project and then they all had lunch together. Since all of the grandparents couldn't be there I got to be Grandma to 2 of her friends, too! SO much fun and I miss it. I want to hear all the details!

  2. What a difference when you get there early. We were in a close parking space by 7:10 and we waited in the office for school to open where we saw teachers and many people we know. Met some neighbors. Had a good breakfast and back home by 8:10. I still saw people parked blocks away like I was last year. Not this time!

  3. Good for you. I can remember doing that with my two grandsons. They are in HS now so I get the fun of dropping them off at school each day after their bible study. What a great way to start the day. ; )

  4. I'm glad it worked out well according to plan! I look forward to events like this with our grandbaby. I hope we will live close to each other.

  5. How great to hear from all of you! Even the weather was comfortable yesterday. As a grandmother I give a lot more thought to the memories we are making than I did as a mom.

  6. I'm here through Ruth's stunning blog, Shari. I admire your determination here, all for the kids. I'd do it too I'm sure.

I'm pleased to meet you, Shari, all the way from Australia where we too enjoy Grandparents' day, though fortunately not grandparents breakfasts.

  7. We have a brunch. Coffee and a donut. We had a great turnout too. It is so important to the little ones. I'm glad you were able to make the effort. I like showing off big ticket items like our SmartBoard to show them what buying all those magazines provides for the students.
